Visiting The UK
Things to do in London
If, like us, you’re just visiting the UK, you may want to spend some time in London. Any regular guidebook should have excellent recommendations (TimeOut even has a page dedicated to Harry Potter related Things To Do), and Yelp is fairly reliable for restaurants and the like, but we have included a few recommendations that we have enjoyed. Please reach out to us if you want more specific recommendations!
Things To Do
The South Bank is home to a number of passable restraunts, the Tate, London Eye, a couple of concert halls, and Shakespeare’s globe. It is also a good place for first dates.
Kew Botanical Gardens is worth a visit any time of year, and is just over the river from Ian’s old flat in Brentford. Good nearby pubs include The Botanist and The Original Maids of Honour, or over the bridge and down Strand On The Green for the Bell & Crown.
Food
Hawksmoor Seven Dials is a fantastic steak restraunt in the theatre district of London. Reservations recommended.
For quality fish and chips (and hipsters) pop along to Poppies in Spitalfields.
Our favourite Indian restraunt is Indian Zing near Hammersmith. In case this is a bit out of the way, there are several alternatives in the Cinnamon collection restaurants in The City, Westminster and Soho.
Elsewhere
Brighton is a San Francisco-esque town on the south coast with a historic Regency party house, 1 and 1/4 piers, some great restaurants and pubs, and (possibly by the time of the wedding) a ridiculous donut thing. It’s about an hour on the train from London Victoria.
Paris is just two and half hours away from St Pancras on the Eurostar trains via the Channel Tunnel. Trains run regularly throughout the day (unless there is a strike in France).
